Mecklenburg-Schwerin

The holiday region of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, halfway between the great cities of Hamburg and Berlin, enchants visitors with a picturesque landscape far removed from the everyday world.  The countryside is spacious and gentle, varied and unspoilt. The sounds here are those of the natural world: the rustle of leaves, birdsongs, the soft swish of cornfields and again and again the rhythmic sounds of water.

Whether in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves of the River Elbe Country or Schaalsee, the Nature Park of Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heath or in Plau Lakeland the landscape is everywhere one of lakes and rivers and the species-rich flora and fauna are both fascinating and breathtaking. Very few people are insensitive to the beauty of the crystal-clear lakes, where it is easy to let one’s thoughts take wing. Enjoy the peace and quiet; immerse yourself in the extensive water labyrinths of the region onboard a houseboat or a comfortable yacht.

Explore the traces of our thousand-year history when you take shore leave or go on overland trips. Wherever your journey takes you, North-German brick-Gothic architecture, ancient village churches, colourful timber-framed houses, defiant fortified castles and manor-houses will mark your way. Take your time, take a break and choose your own special, individual places and moments: perhaps a stallion parade at the traditional stud farm at Redefin, a stroll through the baroque garden of Schwerin Castle or along the castle ramparts of a reconstructed Slavic settlement at the open-air archaeological museum at Gross Raden or a visit to one of the innumerable local and castle festivals in the region.
